Charlotte Williams, known also as raining_hail on Young Composers, is a 20 year old composer from Wales. She was raised in Pontypridd, South Wales on a Council Estate. At the age of 18, she moved to Bangor, North Wales to undertake University education and has since made her permanent home in Menai Bridge. Charlotte is also mildly dyslexic and dyspraxic. LifeInstrumental Life Charlotte Williams was born in June 1987. At age 5, she began her musical life by beginning lessons on the piano. At age 7, she added Guitar lessons but quit at age 14. Through her local education authority, Charlotte began Violin lessons at age 9 and at age 11, she joined the Rhondda Cynon Taff Young Orchestra, playing at both Junior and Senior levels. At age 16, she added the clarinet to her growing list of instruments, taking lessons through her school. As of 2008, Charlotte continues to play clarinet and has lessons on Violin with Janet Pinder-Emery. However, she only plays for her own enjoyment. Education Charlotte was publicly schooled in her local Comprehensive school. At age 14, she decided to not study music at GCSE level owing to her belief that music was just her hobby. She took Business instead. By the time she came to her A level, this belief had altered and she entered in for her A level in Music. At her Comprehensive school, she gained three A levels in English, Music and French before entering Bangor University as a BMus student in September 2005. Since entering University, Charlotte's music education found some structure which had been lacking previous. She has developed and explored several of her interests further completing several projects such as an ethnomusicology study of a message board used by fans of Tom Jones. She has also developed an interests in the Classical String Quartet as well as piano works of the Romantic period, especially those by Chopin. As of 2008, she is currently repeating her second year. Her first attempt ended when she caught a serious stomach bug which forced her to pull out of University temporary. Her main focus is Composition and Orchestration and she undertakes several modules in these areas. She is planning to complete third year projects in Composition as well as a secondary project on the development of the Nocturne with her focus being Chopin. She then plans apply for MMus Composition courses within the UK. WorksTo date, Charlotte Williams has composed for String Quartet, Woodwind Quartet, Solo Piano, Solo Harp, Small Chamber Orchestra as well as works for mixed ensemble.
