Inal Bilsel
Inal Bilsel

Inal Bilsel is a composer from North Cyprus. He has studied composition in Eastern Mediterranean University with Miroslav Spasov, David Hanner and Jean Michelle Boulay. His first major succes came when he attended a workshop in Ohrid, Macedonia, where the course tutor encouraged him to write a piece for an upcoming competition. Inal wrote a piece for solo flute titled: Four Bagatelles for Solo Flute. The composition was a succes and Inal's piece was selected to be performed and recorded in a concert held in Macedonia by Violinist Vladimir Kostov. (During that time, the concert organisers could'nt find a capable flute player). In his final year of study, Inal wrote a piano concerto to be performed at the end of the semester concert. The performance was critically acclaimed and established Inal as a new emerging Cypriot composer. After completing his studies in EMU, Inal got accepted to do his masters degree in composition at Royal Holloway, University of London. During the one year programme, Inal completed 9 compositions of which includes his first String Quartet and an Orchestral Overture titled: Nilay's Dream. Currently he moved to his new house in North London.

Compositional Interest

Although Inal writes mainly atonal music, Jazz is a main influence in most of his music. This odd combination comes from his childhood when he used to listen a lot of jazz, mainly Pat Metheny. And atonal music came to his interest after he learned about Stravinsky, Martinu, Bartok and Schonberg among many other atonal composers.
