BIOGRAPHY:

JORGE VIDALES was born in Mexico City, where he studied at the Escuela Nacional de Música, in México´s National Autonomous University (UNAM), where he graduated with honors. His principal teachers were Federico Ibarra (composition), Aurelio León (piano), Mario Lavista (composition) and Gabriela Ortíz (composition).

In 2000 he was the recipient of the Young Creators Grant, awarded by the National Endowment for Arts and Culture (FONCA).

From 1999 to 2001 he was faculty member at the Escuela de Música Vida y Movimiento, Ollin Yoliztli, and from 2001 to 2005 he was faculty member and head of the Music Theory Department, at the Escuela Superior de Música, of the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA).

His works have been premiered in Mexico´s most prestigious venues and festivals, including the “Manuel Enríquez” International New Music Forum, the University Music Composition Festival, the University Arts and Humanities Festival, Mexico City´s International Festival, and the University Piano Marathons.

He has received commissions from some of Mexico´s leading performers, and his works have been performed abroad in Italy, the U.S. and Latin America.

He has done extensive work in the field of musical theatre as a pianist, conductor, arranger and composer. He is also a regular contributor to Pauta, Mexico´s leading music theory and music criticism publication, where he has published articles on music theory and esthetics. Extracts of his graduate thesis on musical time have appeared to favorable reviews.

His catalog includes works for solo instruments, chamber music, vocal and choral works, and orchestral music.
