Life and Interests

Tyler Hampton, an amateur self-taught incidental music composer, was born on Friday, 13 September 1991. Born into a reasonably non-musical family, he was not exposed to music very much early in his life. As a child, he was always described as friendly and quiet. Though very creative, he never found much interest in the arts and instead began playing video games.

Around the age of 7, his family moved from Columbus, Ohio to a small town in the very centre of the state. This marked a significant change in his life; after this move, he never quite felt like he belonged again, seeking more comfort in video games.

At the age of 12, he began developing an interest in music, frequently listening to the radio and eventually seeking to reproduce what he heard himself. His interest finally led him to acquire an electric bass guitar. However, his difficulty managing the larger instrument eventually forced him to move to an electric guitar, which then became his main instrument.

After some time, Tyler became bored with playing the music of others, and finally decided that he wished to create his own music. To this day, it remains his principal interest. Though, at first, he worked with the rock/metal genre, which he frequently listened to, he eventually grew tired of it and began composing in the idiom of incidental – finally drawing inspiration from the video game music he once found interest in.
