Both start slow...so give them a chance.

Anyway, a lot of the time I write a piece that in reality is quite good, but I just don't have a good vibe about it, like there is something missing...so I throw it out. This is the Earl Grey Overture. An overture to the Opera I am writing.

The other, the King Lear Overture, a summary of Shakespeare's wonderful play, is the exact opposite. In reality it is thin, tasteless, yet..there is something that kinda makes me want to keep it.

As you can see, I'm in a bit of a bind. This is where you all come in !

What think you?

Oh, of course, neither are finished. The King Lear i just started. KL: 2 mins, EG: 6 so far.

I tend to have the same problem with my own music.

What is this, the manfred oveture?

I'd like to hear more I6 I64 and I chords in the begginning, nice build up and very nice counterpoint.

Good luck with getting what you want.

Have a proufound day!

WICKED!

I don't seem to know the theme: who's the author of the libretto? Is it a play or was it written properly as n operatic libretto? I'm quite excited!

Also, it's strange that ypu're writing the opera's overture first: it's a very old tradition for composers to write an Opera's overture in the last place. Mozart wrote the Don Giovanni Overture a day before the Opera premiered!

Oh, I know that. I usually write the overture last. the Earl Grey Overture is last, but I can't get that on here !

King Lear is a Shakespeare place i thought I would summarize musically in an overture.

I have an update by the way.

Now it is reminding me of beehtoven's 5th(well the fast part)

Anyways good work, advice on not hating the works that you are in the middle of creating is don't listen to them through finale. (for me atleast) I use to always constantly be listening to my piece while I'm composing that it soon turned into a habit so each time I composed a bar or a measure or a melody I'd immediately listen to it. This burns me out of the piece and I start hating it and considering it garbage. (am I the only one that does this?)

Anyways what seems to be the trouble?

yeah...I was afraid of the Beethoven's 5th thing when i started it...but I think it's original enough to not be considered accidental plagiarism.

YOUR POINT IS EPIPHANIC! That might beeee the reason. Thank you!
