Each sound is sampled (with different mic positions and articulations, too!) and a program is used to build the words. In fact, the program is called "Wordbuilder" . It works pretty well, and you have a pretty decent amount of control over the sounds. If you're looking for a sampled choir (and soloists, though there are probably better solo samples out there) EWQL Symphonic Choirs would definitely be a good choice .

In musical criticism, when issues of craft and technical consideration are set aside, what remains is more subjective. However, until technical issues are dealt with, the subjective portion bears considerably less weight.
