Nah, not that bad. The terms chaconne and passacaglia (and variants thereof) are used rather interchangeably in the real literature (some individal works even labeled differently in different sources). The formal distinction is essentially a modern invention. So write your chaconne over a ground bass, and you've done nothing wrong, except maybe upset a few dictionary enthusiasts.
