Funny, I feel sort of the same about Pärt - ambivalent. It's actually nice music to have in the background during a dinner party. It's not really anything I would sit and listen to rapturously.

In musical criticism, when issues of craft and technical consideration are set aside, what remains is more subjective. However, until technical issues are dealt with, the subjective portion bears considerably less weight.
