Hi,
I wrote a very simple song. It began as a poem challenge to write something associated with a candle so I wrote it about a woman addressing her spirit as being like a candle.
I started the song with as a simple harmony rocking between E and A. But then I found that I couldn't break out of that simple two-chord pattern in any way that felt good.
So I just stayed with that very simple two-chord pattern throughout the whole song and tried to be creative with the melodic verse. (my performance isn't very good but hopefully you'll get the idea).
A have a couple question,....
First,...
A lot of people seem to like it and no one has yet complained about it being boring or anything like that. I also kind of like the hypnotic affect of the monphonic harmony.
Is this considered a particular style of music? Something like Gregorian Chant only different? By that, I mean, is there a name to this kind of music that I can search for to learn more about this style of music?
Second,...
Is there anything I can do to break out of the E-A chord pattern without drastically breaking away from the almost hypnotic lull? I've tried going to different chords but everything seems to be disruptive.

I know it could use some better timings in places between verses, and the performance overall is bad. But try to imagine it being performed by someone who can actually sing.
