Trumpet and Piano - Mvt. II "Scherzo"

The process of writing this movement was very frustrating for about 3 months. 3 months for 3-4 minutes of music. That's never happened to me before, so I feel the need to talk about it. Writing a scherzo, and something interesting at that proved to be harder than I would have though. I kept running along problems with how I was approaching form and thematic material, I have so so many pages of sketches and rewrites, that I probably have enough junk material to make a completely new and different piece out of that. Anyway, writing something fast and light with substance proved to be hard, and then I had an ephiphany a couple days ago. And in a few days I finished the movement (so cleaning up to do with the score and some counterpoint, but otherwise it's done). I guess that's just a lesson to anyone, keep working at something until it's perfect, don't settle for crap. So here's a PDF and an MP3...

That should be 1893 by the way, not 1892....
