ofcourse you're having trouble trying to mimic a cheezy 80's synth bass with high-end, real EW instruments.
try the generic synth that comes with your DAW (almost every sequencer comes with at least one simple synthesizer or get one for free at the KVR thingy), and most of the time it already has presets which also includes bass sounds, pick one and tweak it till it sounds right. this bass sound is far from complex and shouldn't take to long to reproduce.
what sequencer are you using?
