Dramatic opening, then follows a misterious and beautiful, dark section with dark strings... the expressive bassoons add to the romantic tension. The transition between the low strings and the woodwinds has been carefully orchestrated, leading to the Allegro theme, in true early romantic style!
Beethovian handling of the timpani!
Overall, very effective contrasting elements that keep the listener's attention awake.
