2 oboes in unison = NOT the best choice.

for my taste, way too much timpani. it was overbearing.

what made you choose such a heteroclite ensemble? it's not the easiest grouping to balance, and not combinations of sound that blend particularly well.

In musical criticism, when issues of craft and technical consideration are set aside, what remains is more subjective. However, until technical issues are dealt with, the subjective portion bears considerably less weight.
