First, it might bring in others who hate pop music, and while SOME members are unable to listen to the logic and reasoning behind why all music has merit, some others may not be so pigheaded.
Second, this (among several other threads of equal ugliness) helps teach one how NOT to discuss differing opinions on the internet. It helps one further define what they're trying to say. It seems that 90% of the time, most disagreements are a matter of vernacular choice. If one says "All music has this element" you're going to get ripped. However, if you say "It seems to me that all music has this element" you're still going to get ripped, but in a more respectful manner. Through all the pain and anger that these threads cause, composers grow, both by being exposed to others' viewpoints and by further understanding of what their own viewpoints are.
Well, that's how it seems to me anyway.

well there's one thing all music has in common: the composer called it music. and if they didn't call it music, we have no right to either.
