by the way, Havergal Brian's 1st symphony "Gothic" beats out the Mahler 3rd by around 10 minutes.
The Mahler 3rd does not clock in at 2 hrs, but at 1 hour 40 minutes, while the Brien opus clocks in at 1hr50.

In musical criticism, when issues of craft and technical consideration are set aside, what remains is more subjective. However, until technical issues are dealt with, the subjective portion bears considerably less weight.
