Yea, most of the Orgelbuchlein is as you mentioned, but theres a few that have the chorale melody left entirely intact, like I have here. Just looking through right now, I see Ich ruf' zu dir, Herr Jesu Christ; Jesu, Meine Freude; and Komm, Gott, Schopfer, Heiliger Geist are all like this.

I think the problem is that the hymn I picked is so short to begin with, maybe it doesn't lend itself to this style? I'm gonna try doing it the way Pachebell would: introduce each phrase with a small fughetta.
