I'm not familiar with the Evanescence song, but regardless.
I thought it was pretty serene, I would have loved to hear more creative use of the harp. Then again, what the hell do I know about the harp. I haven't gotten to that yet.
You said this was just an exercise. I'm sure you probably improved from writing it, it was pretty consistent with the original theme. I feel weird critiquing this because I'm sure you already heard this crap.
Plus, it's early.
I'm going to pretend this is the only thing I've ever heard of yours:
vary the harp range and the overall dynamics of the piece and it will be more effective. You know this though. Whoa, it's early.
