7 Sins - Avaritia (Greed)

Hey y'all. I'm just throwing out here one of the movements from my currently-running "7 Sins" suite, where each piece represents one of the cardinal sins. This is my favourite so far, but first a couple of notices - you may have to listen to it through headphones or speakers because it is very quiet to begin with. Also, I must apologise for a bit of fuzz that comes in towards the end as it did not record well, no matter how I tried.

So far I have scored Greed (Avaritia), Envy (Invidia), Gluttony (Gula), Lust (Luxuria), and am currently working through Anger (Ira). Nonetheless, scored for bassoon, oboe, viola, cello, piano, timpani and glockenspiel, here is one of the 7 Sins... Greed. See what you think and tell me what I can do to improve it. Posted as MP3 and MIDI, but I really do not like how MIDIs sound in general.

And I seem to have a problem attaching MP3s at the moment, so heres the link: 7 Sins - Greed - eSnips, share anything

Could you post a score? Pretty please? *pouts*

I may have much more to say if I could see the music.

I really like the instrumentation here, quite original, but it works, somehow. I must say, after a while it didn't seem to be going anywhere, I'm thinking specifically about half way into the piece where its a little more frantic, with both oboe and bassoon playing. I didn't really see what was going on there, it just kinda dragged on for most of the piece. You made a very good attempt at variation to arouse interest, but it was kinda monotonous and plain the whole way through.

I really like the main theme and feeling, you did well with it I think, I would have interpreted greed as a little less subdued, but we all have are own individual visions. I think I actually liked every part in this piece, it is all lightly sinister, but for some reason it just didn't seem to go anywhere, and I found that unfortunate. Very good music, it just doesn't seem organized and diversified enough if that makes sense. I thought your idea of portraying the sins is very intriguing and would love to see the others when/if you share them.

I'll post a score up when I get back to my own PC.

Unfortunately, the style I'm most comfortable with involves quite a bit of repetition, which, as you've noticed, I do try and vary, with limited success.

Like I say, I'll post up a score, and other pieces when I get back.

I like the piece, but I don't see it as a stand alone piece. It would work as VGM or film music, but that is basing it on just this short section. Maybe as a whole 7 pieces, I might have a different opinion.

That was very good. I like the repetitive nature of it. Symbolically sins are something which repeats itself. The way you vary the instrumentation used maintained my interest.

I'd love a score. You seem to have some interesting harmony at some places.

Interesting concept, original intrumentation! A live recording would rock!

Kudos is in order! Cheers! I can't wait to listen to the other movements.

Here's the score... I can't turn it into a PDF so I'm just going to have to post it up as a .MUS file.

And I'm thinking complete the works and post it up in the "Major Works" section later in the year.
