There is something comforting about this music. I found myself letting go of pedagogy and rules and expectations and just letting it wash warm over me.
For lack of a better term, this is somewhat "American" sounding music to me...lightly flavoured with Copeland, perhaps.
I thought it was odd that the violin solo didn't enter sooner, and at first I found myself wishing the piano part were more "pianistic," i.e. less homophonic. I didn't always agree with your voice leading and harmonic progressions...some of them seemed slightly crude to me. But more important than all that is the fact that this little piece took me out of my world for a moment, and led me somewhere else, someplace peaceful and beautiful. Thanks for that.
