All I have is finale 2001, Question: What software can i buy to make the music I write on finale sound more professional. is there any you can download? or do they work seperate from finale. Any answers for these questions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Not quite sure what you mean...

What kind of music are you writing? If orchestral then you have to face that it will never sound like live orchestral music and you'll be limited in what you can do without a massive sample bank - they're expensive, so is the computer to run giga 3 flat out.

No notation software in itself will make your music sound more or less professional - it's as Chris Shaver says - it depends on your composing (including how well it balances, how well you orchestrate it...how detailed your instructions are on the score - many things) and don't expect too much of finale, it's your inner ear that counts. Even writing for a soloist can take a lot of work. If a solo, record it live, don't worry about the computer.

Otherwise, post some with a score if you can, then we can comment accordingly.

good luck,
M

I agree with montpellier, though with from what I read from your 'sound more professional' I'm guessing you are looking into improving the sound of your instruments in your composition.

Without hearing one of your compositions it's hard to tell whether you're looking to make the instruments more realistic by adding different expressions or styles of playing, or whether you purely mean a better sounding instrument sound, e.g better than an onboard sound cards General Midi wavetable. If it's the latter I'd agree with montpellier again by saying to getting more realistic instruments is costly, plus if your computer is lagging behind on certain performance parts (like RAM and CPU) you'll need to upgrade these too to use efficiently the large sample based libraries like Garritan Personal Orchestra and Eastwest QL Symphonic Orchestra for example.

Unfortunately there are no demos that I know of of either for you to try out but you can get a flavor of the sounds by their audio examples on their websites. For prices Garritan GPO certainly wins hands down at around $200 mark (i think?) and you can get the Silver Edition of the EW QL Symphonic Orchestra too for about $200. There are other models in the EW range but range dramatically in price for the more realistic and complete collections (the Platinum edition being the most expensive).

Thanks For All The Reply's. I'm sorry if I gave any of you the impression i want to download talent, I was talking about improving intrument sound, sorry for the misunderstanding. From what you all said I think I will just stick with my finale version until I can afford 2007, for now I'm assuming that 2007 will have the best orchestral sounds you can get. I will be posting some music, so please give me your comments on any natural talent I might have. Thanks Again

No need to apologize, I made no assumptions.
