Announcing Notion's 2nd annual "Realize Music Challenge"

Hello all!

I'm new to the site here but from the looks of it I'm in the right place! I work with Notion Music and we're announcing our annual competition entitled "Realize Music Challenge."

I'll paste the "official rules and guidelines" below but just to let you know.. the winner will have his/her composition recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road!

Here is the official press release! Enjoy and good luck!

NOTION Music Launches Second Annual Composition Contest
Realize Music Challenge seeks next Mozart from global pool of contestants

GREENSBORO, N.C. (November XX, 2007) – NOTION Music, Inc., creators of NOTION™ music composition and performance software, has kicked off the second annual Realize Music Challenge. Again this year, composers from around the world will submit online an orchestra piece completed in NOTION software for a chance to win a recording session with the world-renowned London Symphony Orchestra at the legendary Abbey Road Studios. The deadline for entries is May 31, 2008.

“We’re going to discover another many great works of art this year,” said Lori Jarrett, CEO of NOTION Music. “Our software provides the environment musicians can utilize to develop into great composers. It’s the ability to hear their works performed – it’s that immediate, realistic feedback that our technology provides. Musicians are able to work in a musical score without worrying about technology, and that makes for great music.”

One Grand Prize winner, accompanied by a guest, will be flown to London to record the winning composition with the London Symphony Orchestra, the same orchestra featured in NOTION’s built-in sound library. This recording session will take place at Abbey Road Studios, home to some of the most acclaimed recordings in music history. The Grand Prize winner will also receive hotel accommodations while in London and $2,500

Last year’s Grand Prize winner, 23-year old Inal Bilsel, had his composition, titled “Nilay’s Dream,” recorded at Abbey Road Studios in March of 2007. “I enjoyed using NOTION and found it very straightforward to learn and input notation,” said Bilsel. “I will definitely continue to use it, and I recommend it to every composer looking for easy-to-use software as well as quality-sounding demos.”

The Grand Prize winner will be chosen from one of the following categories: Young, Emerging or Professional Composer. A panel of distinguished composers and conductors will also select three finalists, each receiving $1,000, and nine runners-up, who will receive their choice of NOTION software. Submitted original compositions must be 5-10 minutes in length and created in NOTION software. Ah, but you have to compose in Notion (i.e. buy Notion) in order to participate...

Yeah, that's the only reason I can't/won't participate.

Hello everyone!! Exciting news for the RMC 2008!!

John Corigliano has confirmed as a judge for the RMC 2008 and we expect a few more high profile names to come on board very soon. If you have not heard of John Corigliano then you should go out and find something today, or go watch the movie The Red Violin. With well over 100 published works he is perhaps one of the most well-known and established composers of this generation. Check out his bio below...

John Corigliano is one of the finest and most widely recognized American composers. Among the dozens of citations, doctorates, and other honors he has received are included all of the most important music awards — several Grammy’s, a Pulitzer Prize for his Symphony No. 2 (2001), a Grawemeyer for his Symphony No. 1 (1991), and an Academy Award for his score to Francois Girard's 1997 film "The Red Violin." One of the few living composers to have a string quartet named after him, Corigliano's work has been performed by some of the most visible orchestras, soloists and chamber musicians in the world, and recorded on the Sony, RCA, BMG, Telarc, Erato, Ondine, New World, and CRI labels. In late 2007, Sony is releasing Red Violin Concerto with Joshua Bell and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Marin Alsop.

Born in New York on 16 February 1938, Corigliano comes from a musical family. His father was concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic from 1943 to 1966 and his mother was an accomplished pianist. Corigliano holds the position of Distinguished Professor of Music at Lehman College, City University of New York and, in 1991, was named to the faculty of The Juilliard School. Also in 1991 he was elected to the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters, an organization of 250 of America's most prominent artists, sculptors, architects, writers, and composers. In 1992, Musical America named him their first "Composer of the Year." The National Arts Club in New York City honored him with their Gold Medal in March 2002.

John Corigliano has received grants from Meet the Composer, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Guggenheim Foundation. His music is published exclusively by G. Schirmer.

Send in those submissions!!

The competition is too awkward, with the demo limitations. Don't expect many submissions from here.
