Oh man, have you guys heard this thing!? Oh my god it's amazing, I'm going to make a thread about it I'm sure no one's heard this before and it's about time composers made REAL music, not that crappy modern Rite of Spring atonal crap.

You either have a remarkably poor sense of humour, or an appallingly narrow-minded view of modern music...

So, which is it?

Ya think

I swear I read this board sometimes I think people forget that music after the 3 German Assholes exists (Strauss, Brahms and Wagner. Offended that I called them assholes? Feel free to read bios on all 3). I guess since a lot of people here are younger, but it's mostly the "older" folk. No talk of Ligeti, Lutoslawski, Berg, Copland, or god forbid incredible composers that are actually alive. I find it strange that I've never really seen mention of John Adams, Steve Reich, Jennifer Higdon, Will Bolcom, no one! Well I'm bringing that to and end.

I'm laughing.

Who hasn't heard of Beethoven's 5th,
I had anaudition that required one of his melodies from the 4th movement.

quote from the 2nd Spiderman movie...Dr. Octavius

"....Did beethoven sleep before he wrote the 5th?"

Actually, the Rite of Spring is extremely intricately crafted in just about every way imaginable, and is easily one of the most influential orchestral works of the 20th century.

If it sounds disorganised to you, I imagine you're comparing it to what went before. Listen to the output of a lot of post-1970 art music composers, and you may be surprised to discover how traditional it is in many ways.
