Beethoven's Grosse Fugue

If you haven't already, go out and listen to Beethoven's Grand Fugue. If you have listened to it, go out and listen to Beethoven's Grand Fugue again.

It is a remarkable piece of music, in terms of structure, denseness, expression, everything. A very "contemporary" piece, as well ...please listen to it....and then listen to it 5 more times to understand it more .

Anyway, I love it ....

Yeah, I've had some people dismiss it as... random.. Even though it's all but random; It's like 2-4 forms at once.

heh, the mastery in the fugue (can't wait to get my hands on a copy of the score) is so great that it makes many think that it is, in fact, random crap .

If you listen closely to it, though, you're able to pick up on it's form/structure and it's incredible how Beethoven did it, listening to what he does with the theme and how he uses it throughout the piece.

So only me and (presumably) Anders like this piece ?

Anyway, I wanted to suggest Beethoven's 13 String Quartet, which the Grosse Fugue was originally the finale for, as well. The whole piece is amazing, especially the 5th movement cavatina .

I suggest listening to the whole work with the Grosse Fugue as the last movement (and then again with the replaced last movement ).
