Boredom Fugues

So...when I get bored I write fugues. Here are some of the fugues I've written out of boredom. I normally don't spend more than 30-40 minutes on them, so they're not meant to be masterpieces, but hopefully a listener or two will get a kick out of their mockingly baroque/classical style .

For stuff you only spend 40 minutes on, these are impressive. I know I couldn't write stuff like this unless I wasted a lot more time. Kudos.

Grazie, Signori. Yeah, I have fun doing these, I guess thats really all that I like about them. They're not great, but eh, thats what you get for 30 minutes.

The Fugues of Boredom. A great exercise, no doubt.

I don't think I'd ever get bored if I heard Fugues playing in my mind, as Fugue is my favorite form.

The F major Theme was brilliant, I hope you'll do more with it.

Did your Father teach you musical form, harmony, etc? You seem to have a good understanding of how things work.

To further comment on the F major Subject: I think with such a brilliant subject it's best to clothe it lightly. If one adds too much diminished counterpoint around, then you lose the splendor of the Theme. I lost touch with the Subject, but if you'd just augment the countersubject I think it would be great!

For example, in Bach's Fugue 532, he had a very flashy and brilliant theme, so he used very simple harmony around it to make the theme stick out and penetrate throughout. Listen to the first minute or two.

No my father nor anyone else really taught me anything about composition. I just kind of do it.

Ok, that's not surprising.

I've listened to the F major quite a few times, and the strange thing is you seem to use a pretty simple countersubject, but still it seems to get too crowed around the theme. Who knows! Still a nice little work. I think I just expected to hear the subject stick out more, and have those happy little sequences in the episodes. Ah, use that same subject in a larger fugue for us fugue lovers!

I thought the F major was the worst of all them. I think I remember writing it late at night. I forced myself to finish it after I became uninspired, thats probably where the whole, you know, crappiness happened

It's not crappy. I just think that subject is worthy of being made into a longer well thought out fugue. Maybe three or four minutes long. Have you ever walked along a Lake or River and sought out a perfect skipping rock that you know would skip like 15 times? Those stones are more rare than the average stone, and if you throw them right they skip gloriously!
Brilliant fugue subjects are rare, and if you don't skip it right once you've found it, then it's a big let down.

For only 30 or 40 minutes these fugues are exceptional. If you ever run into a problem with a piece it's not from lack of ability, just how much time and effort you're willing to spend on it. As you already know... I'm sure most of your best advice and criticisms arise in your own mind.
