Choral Competition

This is where we will deal with the post-dealings of the Choral Competition. I will upload all the entries (unless a composer stipulates that I can not) onto this thread when the winner is announced.

Please send all finished compositions to my e-mail. I will act as mediator between the composers and judges, as I chose not to be either.

nickthoven@yahoo.com

Thanks, and good luck to all!

Note - Once I have recieved all entries, I will randomly give them each a number, keeping everything anonymous. I do urge the composers to keep their name off of everything as well. This is to ensure unbiased scores from the judges. I will then send the entries to each of the judges, and they will have exactly 2 weeks and no more to judge and comment on them.

I got wrapped up in life and didn't get to finish my entry. I had a few pieces in my back catalogue I could have submitted, but I decided that wouldn't be worth it.

Sadly, I'll have to withdraw as well... I really had something that I liked going, but it was progressing way to slowly.. Sorry.

I'm the first judge to respond! I'll put up my comments in a couple days, once I get the final score in. I've already listened through the three I have once, and I'm writing down ideas, comments, reviews, and scorings as we speak. I'll post them all together, when I post them. Unless Nick would rather I just e'mail all the stuff to him, but I don't know if that's the case.

Oh, Chris, I meant for the judges to send all their scores and whatnot to me, and I'll put it all up when everyone is finished. Thanks! (nickthoven@yahoo.com)

It kind of sucks that so many drop out...I thought we would have lots of entries for this one, especially since we had so much time...pity.

Well, looking forward to the comments still.

Yesterday, I spent a few hours writing comments and submitted a formal evaluation. However, in the course of writing it, I realized that the criterion by which I evaluate choral works in many cases are simply not attainable by works for single voice, and I was forced to score accordingly. I was simply not able to evaluate anyone's choral writing based on their writing for solo voice. Although I do remember discussing that all vocal works would be considered, I must have missed the part of the thread that forbade judges from penalizing in any way works that are not choral in nature. Alas, I was hoping that actual choral works would be submitted, given the title of the competition, and I realize now that this is no longer a "choral" competition. Due to the amount of entries, the abundance of judges, and the lack of choral works submitted, I will respectfully withdraw from the panel of judges.

Good luck to all who entered.
