Hey, everyone, I've hardly had anytime lately to do any composition outside of my main projects, but I just came up with the ideas for this organ prelude today and I just had to right them down. Its short, but pretty heavy stuff.

Here it is:

It's the first one on the list, you can't miss it. I'd love any feedback at all on this one.

Very nice, very short. Loved every single second, but i can't provide anything constructive, since i don't know anything about the organ.

Thank you, Wolf.

Now I know there are at least a few other guys on the board who are organists. Let's hear what they think!

EDIT: ....also, is does the length of the piece detract from it as a whole? Its as long as the original chorale would have been, but i'm not sure if that was the right way to go .....

God...that's wonderful!

BA, I'd say that sounds more like a variation on the chorale than a chorale-prelude. Isn't Bach's Chorale-Prelude on "Wachet Auf" more representative of the form (thematic material-chorale 1st phrase - continuation - chorale 2nd phrase, etc)? I don't profess to know the Orgelbuechlein backwards and forwards, and I'm sure there are exceptions, but my overall impression of Chorale-Preludes from what I've heard is that they're basically thorough-composed contrapuntal pieces onto which the chorale is appliqued, a phrase at a time, almost incidentally, and it just kind of fits. That was inanely put, but do you know what I mean?

The style of this is just about flawless, though.

Thanks, J. Lee!

Yea, most of the Orgelbuchlein is as you mentioned, but theres a few that have the chorale melody left entirely intact, like I have here. Just looking through right now, I see Ich ruf' zu dir, Herr Jesu Christ; Jesu, Meine Freude; and Komm, Gott, Schopfer, Heiliger Geist are all like this.

I think the problem is that the hymn I picked is so short to begin with, maybe it doesn't lend itself to this style? I'm gonna try doing it the way Pachebell would: introduce each phrase with a small fughetta.

hi

am not an organist but liked it very much. it's very compact, well harmonised and has a fine and brilliant texture, and a serious mood very fit to the theme. regards!
