Classical music radio stations

Well there are 2 classical stations in Melbourne (the city where I live). I don't know what its like where you live, but here I find the announcers for these stations really annoying. Every announcer is usually over 50 years old, and they always speak with overly-careful pronunciation. It's as if they are trying to sound "refined" or "cultured" or something, but they come across as sounding anal and homosexual. Are all classical music stations like this? Have no problem with the music they play - it's just the announcers.

when i lived on Malta (island near Italy) i used to hear this radio with classical music,
and yes the announcer sounded 50+ ,,,with the sleepy voice ;D ,,, but not sure about the homosexual.
though i think the old man and classical music has something in common? no? ;P

why would you prefer the announcer to be a lady?

My lady in Baltimore is this 20-30 year old Australian lady! Ahh her accent is so cool, and it just makes her sound more distingused then all of the other people in Baltimore, its kinda funny but shes cool. I usually listen to my XM radio most of the time, and they are not big on classical DJS.

I agree. I'm also from Melbourne and the announcers on the classical stations here are some of the most irritating people I have ever come across. Can't they just... talk normally? Agreed, there's nothing wrong with what they play but they put me off radio in general. I prefer CDs.

Classical music radio stations have anouncers?

Bah! I've only ever listenied to a classical station a few times in my life. Not that I don't like it. I just don't see the point of listening to the radio when I'm not in the car and everyone in my family hates classical music besides me (Yes, I'm a bit of a black sheep).

But from reading through all the posts here, sounds like I'm better off just putting classical music on my MP3 player.

Yes, I prefer my ipod over the radio.

I'm from Melbourne too, how many of us are on here???? About the announcers, I think the majority of the stations' audience like it that way. I'm not crazy about them, but yeah, I don't listen to them all that much.

There are a few online ones, if you're interested.

You may want to check BBC - Radio 3 - New Music home page and Resonance FM — The Art of Listening for relatively new music, or you can check sites like SHOUTcast | Free internet radio! for older stuff. Shoutcast has actually loads of stuff, from Country to Bebop to Classical to Japanese or whatever, it's pretty cool (although you need winamp to listen to it)

Perth only has ABC Classic FM. Considering that I'm at a music uni, I don't really listen to it that much.
MP3 players + CDs=fun.

But, the presenters are half half. Some a wanky and up themselves. And the others while not going overboard, do relax.
