Difference of genres already happened in competitions here and they were never a problem for those who know, they can compare bad tonal music to good atonal music, etc. Also, MIDI was always the standart and the obligatory when it came to contest submissions. That is why I think it could work

Is there a competition ever happening, then?

Nickthoven is supposed to be starting the next competition but is quite busy at present. If he doesn't have time, we'll get someone else to start it up. Things will kick off within the next couple of weeks, I would guess.

Can't we just have a monthly fugue competition where someone like J. Lee Graham provides a theme and like three people remain constant judges? (although, I would like to enter at least a few times a year) We can still have the other competitions, but have the monthly fugue one. I know we have the Fugue Challenge, but its not voted upon. It may bring some fugue lovers to the site. I could let Tjako van Schie and Giorgio Pacchioni know about it.

Jeremy

I would gladly help the running of it.

Not sure whether that would be popular enough to be sustainable, Jeremy. I'll speak to the mods.

Ok. I think it could very well be done. I could create the fugue themes most the time. I can create some pretty awesome themes. I could be the main Judge too, being I am fairly learned in fugue. Although, perhaps a few times someone else could provide the theme and be the main judge so I can enter.

Just let me know. If so I will set up the rules and post the Norden's Fugue outlines, so people know what Fugues are in structure.

My, you're awfully confident in yourself, aren't you? Hehe, just playin' ya. I like this idea. If you'd post a general outline of what you had in mind we could indeed go through with it.

I wouldn't be able to start it for about 3 weeks, being I am moving. Once back and settled in Michigan I would have the time and such to do it.

Well, on account of my loss, (the end of the variating competition) I will try to start another competition. If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to suggest.

Hey Nick,

This is just an idea - it may not happen but it could, it just depends! I'm a member of a local orchestra (aren't we all?) and I know the conductor very well. Maybe I could hold a competition in which people write a piece for our orchestra and the winner has it premiered (next concert in September). They'd get a recording and sure, may chuck in a score as well Wouldn't really matter about judges as I pretty much know the orchestra back-to-front and would be able to sort out the unplayable pieces from the playable. I'll have to speak to the conductor about it first but I could have a reply to you soon.

I think many people would be interested - it's just like a commission and I know composers go MAD for them. Note there wouldn't be money involved just a recording - but surely that would be the best thing about the whole thing?
