Hey Nick,

This is just an idea - it may not happen but it could, it just depends! I'm a member of a local orchestra (aren't we all?) and I know the conductor very well. Maybe I could hold a competition in which people write a piece for our orchestra and the winner has it premiered (next concert in September). They'd get a recording and sure, may chuck in a score as well Wouldn't really matter about judges as I pretty much know the orchestra back-to-front and would be able to sort out the unplayable pieces from the playable. I'll have to speak to the conductor about it first but I could have a reply to you soon.

I think many people would be interested - it's just like a commission and I know composers go MAD for them. Note there wouldn't be money involved just a recording - but surely that would be the best thing about the whole thing?
I love competitions like this because you actually get to hear your pieces come to life. It becomes very handy because of the difficulty of getting a large ensemble piece performed and/or recorded. I would enter.

Just go to the top of the forums and you'll see the competition thing there. It's open!

I think we should maybe have another competition going on now as well,..I just arrived so I missed signing up for the current one. My suggestion is a Video Game one-two minute piece. The scene for the video game is provided for a general direction for the sound. And we shouldn't have instrument limitations, I don't think, to get as much of a variety of a sound as possible. This would be very interesting. In fact, we could all have a poll on the scene to write for beforehand.

Some Scene Suggestions could be:
1) Final Battle
2) Map Theme (Exploring)
3) Song being played in a dream-state level while exploring.
4) Candy Shop
5) Dungeon Theme
6) Popcorn Village Theme

No offense, but I think it should definitely wait until the Film Music competition is over and done with, just because the composers have a huge time crunch and we don't want to overload them with more things to write. And also, I'm not sure if everyone here would really want to do a video game music competition, let alone when they're already writing film music. Maybe in a couple of weeks.

Maybe we can get a plan in mind so those not in the Film Music competition can get a head start as of the type of music to compose.

...That would be unfair. I really think it would be best to wait, sorry.

But hey, once I'm done with this film thing, I'd be all for doing a video game music competition! In the film competition, I'm discovering just how much appropriate material I can come up with, given a theme and setting. It's really encouraging, and I think I could do the same under a video game structure.

I'd probably do it too.

I'd try.

I wouldn't win though.

But ah well.
