a symphony would take too long for us mere mortals, we're not all Nico! I say chamber aswell, what about suite for a chamber ensemble, or a concerto from any era, as concerti are one of the only forms that appear in most tie periods and we would therfore get more competitors.

I assumed only one of us was Nico, that one person being him.

I hate when people complain about competitions being too hard. It's a frickin competition, that's the idea!

I vote chamber, simply because that would save me some time ^^

Christmas Carol competition wouldn't be finished in time for christmas.

We should at some point have a competition where everyone is given the same starting material. Whether it be a cantus firmus for counterpoint, or a theme for variations (wait, we did that already, didn't we. well maybe more like the Diabelli idea that has popped up a few times..)

Daniel, i agree about everyone being given the same starting material, would be better for those of us with no imagination.

How about a larger scale motive thing? someone provides a melody of around 8-16 bars and you have to write a multi-movement piece on it, a concerto, a suite, a sonata, even a sodding symphony if you like, what say you, people? We could even have a mini competition for the best melody and decide which to use by poll

Just another idea from the strange world of Mark

Why can't you try to write a symphony... it will take much longer to complete, but what's the problem?
