That would be Thomas, though he seems to have become inactive as of late. And I'm not even sure that the winning piece did get performed in the end.

wow, people are actually liking my idea, i feel so proud

i agree that getting the piece recorded would be a fantastic prize, maybe if (and what an enormous IF it is) i win this i can finally convince my parents to let me buy finale and GPO!

for a concerto it isn't, there's the small matter of needing an orchestra!

how about a poll with the following options:
Concerto
Symphony
Chamber piece (other than a concerto or a symphony)
Other (state in reply)

Quintuple Post. Nicely Done.

I think most people would go for chamber, or concerto.
I vote chamber.

Yea Mark, cut down on the multiple posting. It's really irritating, and pointless.

Yes, we need someone to make a poll like I've been saying.
Here are some options:

Concerto
Concerto (chamber)
Symphony
Symphony(chamber)
Sonata
Chamber piece (what ensemble though?)
Free form piece (single, or multi-movement?)

Also, should the contest be for a single movement piece, or multi-movement?
More than one would really lower the amount of final submissions we get, but it results in a much more substantial piece at the end.

oooo, you clever mods, those options make more sense, i just suggested what i did to try and get the thread moving.

I'm definitely with multi movemental, because then I'll finally have something to stick an opus number on!

OK, so poll options would be:
  • Concerto
  • Concerto (chamber)
  • Symphony
  • Symphony (chamber)
  • Sonata
  • Other (chamber)
  • Free-form piece (single-movement)
  • Free-form piece (multi-movement)
Looks like a decent selection to me. However, I have a feeling that if the majority were to pick, for example, a symphony, participation would be greatly increased by the offering of a decent prize...

I'm thinking a Marius-authored recording, as already offered, or a free one-year subscription to the new social networking / music management software (assuming it's set up with subscriptions). Obviously will have to speak to the other Mike about this, but it seems like a good incentive.

Matt, I don't think there is much point pursuing that line of enquiry anymore.
