Yes, I agree that it would definitely be a good idea to avoid putting out a brief so ambitious in future.

How about something for string quartet? No specified form, length over 4 minutes or something? That way, it's a small and managable ensemble, it's not too long, and it doesn't sound nearly as daunting as a symphony.

Thoughts?

Or another idea would to have a painting by somebody and then just base a composition off that painting.
I still think that is a great idea. Maybe something like Mark's idea, but you have to get your inspiration from the picture. It would be interesting to hear the different interpretations of the art.

Hello,

I've got two ideas for a competition.

the first one: You'll have to make a piano version of an composition of yours and an orchestrial version.

the second one: You are free to pick a song from the recent charts (or older music like the beatles) and make an orchestrial version of it without the original vocals and instruments.

Well if you think these ideas are good, we maybe can make a competition of one of these.

*sorry if my english isn't correct.*

Maybe there should be a competition on writing a song for a suspense movie or something.

The next series competition will be one based on counterpoint.

Has there been any development with the competitions on this board? I'd like to do a strictly-YC one.
