I really like the ''Celtic Composition'' idea... That could be fun!

Yeah, especially considering it takes a specific skill to write something that truly sounds like traditional folk music and make it convincing.

How many people need to agree with this idea to make it an official competition?

How about a competition where we orchestrate a piano piece into whatever ensemble we want?

PS - Just saw the CELTIC COMPOSITION idea - that sounds awesomely awesome.

Haha, I do that on a regular basis. I have a handful of piano pieces arranged for woodwind quintet.

Yeah, I say we vote on the Celtic Compo idea.

Another idea: Anybody write for drumline? Maybe have a drumline cadence compo? For those of us percussionists around here that would be something interesting, I just don't know how many drummers/percussionists we have swimming around here. Oh, FYI a drumline usually consist of 1 marching snare drum part (average of 6 snare drummers on the part), a tenor part (average of two tenor players playing either quints or quads), and 5 tuned basses. Optional cymbals, usually tuned, four sets.

For the Celtic competition...I would suggest that we have to freedom to choose our instrumentation.

Celtic? Seems limited.. Why not just a ''folk music'' competition? - write a piece of art music that draws on the folk music traditions of a specific country, perhaps?

Yeah...a folk theme opens a lot more doors open!

When are they opening a new competition?
