Hello, I am new here. Can someone explain to me how these competitions work.
Is there a competition going on now or one soon coming?

Thanks, Jeremy

Welcome, Invisionary. Yes, we are currently running the Poem Setting Competition. If you want to take part, post in the thread announcing your intentions. The deadline for submissions is 1st February.

Thanks.

Do I post my intentions in the "Poem Setting" competition
page by Feburary 1st and then start composing it,
or should the composition be submitted finished by the 1st?

And when is the deadline for submission of the work
if we begin composing on the 1st?

Thanks again, Jeremy

I vote for Jazz/Big Band composition/arrangement. Not many people do this, it will be interesting to see what people can come up with having to use different voicings to normal.

Jazz would be a good competition because it's really hard to write for... I like that idea but then rather than just making it Big Band you can do whatever kind of jazz you want: solo piece, combo piece, big band, etc.

Also movie idea is cool.. especially if you do it to a clip. I'm excited for that, because that's a current career aspiration of mine.

Wow, this died. We were waiting for a scene to compose, and now the topic's been dying and evidently some random poem setting competition sprung forth from who knows where. I didn't hear a bit about such a competition all last month when I was on here daily. Can one still enter this competition?

Yes one can. There is no need for ''entering'' anything really, just submit your piece within the deadline, 15th february.
