Hey YC Composers!

Been a while since I've been able to stop by the forums, but I see that it is still as active as ever! Hopefully during my break from school I'll be able to sit down, relax, and listen to much of the fine music being posted here (I'm presuming its fine!).
Concerning the topic of this tread: I have decided to do a project this year for a University class entitled “The Ethnomusicology of Media & Technology”¯ (Based at the University of Toronto) on composers using the internet in order to either:

(1) Gain fame, or
(2) Have their music heard by a wider public

What I am studying and am most interested in is why composers have chosen the internet over more traditional means to have their music heard. Please note that this is pertaining to composers of classical "art" music (anything that a symphony orchestra, chamber orchestra, chamber group, etc. would perform), modern or more traditional included.

If you are interested in being interviewed for this project, all you will have to do is answer several questions by email. I am looking for 5-10 different composers, of any ages, who use the internet and specifically forums to promote their music. Interested parties can either email me with their contact email at info@jbelelieu.com or reply to this post with your email address. To avoiding spam, the former may be the more secure of the two options.

The final project will take the form of a web page intended to promote composers.

Thanks you very much and I hope to hear from many of you soon!

I'll answer your interview questions. This is the major goal of Young Composers, so hopefully I can be of some help. I will email you.

Thank you to Chopin for replying - I was really hoping that more people would be willing to participate. It is vital that we determine reasons why classical musicians must turn to the internet in order to spread their music, and more importantly, whether this method has success.

Please, if you have just 5-10 minutes to answer a short list of questions VIA email, participate! Just email info@jbelelieu.com to let me know that you wish to help out. Any age and any ability are welcome.

I'll participate. I'm definitely not a typical composer, but that's probably exactly the point of your survey!

The piano quartet is COMPLETE!!!

Please note that I will not review the following without a very good reason:
1) MP3-only posts: no score + outside link = bad deal. Especially true because I'm on dialup when at home.
2) Shoutbox or PM spam: excessive shameless plugs get very annoying very fast.
3) Pieces written in a short time or with little effort: if it's not worth the composer's time and energy, then it's not worth mine either.

hi Jonathan

thanks for your reply. i have sent another email but it has returned.

i have a single point ununderstood in your interview: (do you believe that this will effect whose music is received and
"discovered"? Do you believe that this is a problem? ) regarding to the other questions i think that in my first reply i have said all that i had to say.

best regards

Is it too late to respond? I've been extremely busy lately, and I'm finally going to be able to get around to answering tomorrow... it's a very time-consuming survey!
