H. ROBERT REYNOLDS WIND ENSEMBLE COMPOSITION COMPETITION, JAN. 13
We are proud to announce the Seventh Annual H. Robert Reynolds
Composition Competition for Wind Ensemble. Composers are eligible to submit
works if: they are enrolled in an accredited academic program (high school,
undergraduate or graduate); the piece has not been published; and the piece
is 8 minutes in length or shorter and written for standard wind ensemble
instrumentation. Postmark deadline: Jan. 13. Prizes: Roundtrip flight to New
York from your hometown, 3 nights lodging, and $500 in prize money. All
submitted works must have been written within the past 3 years, and must be
submitted with an audio recording (CD or audio tape only). Works are still
eligible if they have had a reading or performance. Any works submitted that
do not heed these guidelines will be disqualified. H. Robert Reynolds and
Peter Tiboris will select the winning work to be performed by the 2006
National Wind Ensemble in Carnegie Hall. To apply, please send your score

2007 GRAWEMEYER AWARD, JAN. 23, $40
The University of Louisville School of Music is pleased to announce the
University of Louisville Grawemeyer Award for Music Composition 2007. The
University will offer an international prize in recognition of outstanding
achievement by a living composer in a large musical genre: choral, orchestral,
chamber, electronic, song-cycle, dance, opera, musical theater, extended solo
work, etc. The award will be granted for a work premiered during the
five-year period between Jan. 1, 2001, and Dec. 31, 2005. Prize: $200,000.

ACF/SCHUBERT CLUB 2ND ANNUAL ARTSONG COMPETITION, FEB.1
The American Composers Forum and The Schubert Club are pleased to
announce a Call for Scores for its Second Annual ArtSong Competition.
Composers are invited to submit works for mezzo-soprano and piano, with the
option of one additional instrument. Postmark deadline: Feb. 1. Prizes:
First Prize: $1000, Performance by one of the above vocalists at 2006 Saint
Paul Summer Song Festival; Second Prize: $750 and Third Prize: $500. While
Second and Third place works may be presented, these works cannot be
guaranteed a performance.
Scores are invited from composers who are U.S. citizens or legal
permanent residents. There is no age limit, and students are welcome. The
work may be a setting of any sacred or secular text in any of the following
languages: English, French, German, Italian, Latin, or Spanish. The rights
to all texts must be secured; entries with texts that are not public domain
must include documentation of permission/rights. As the program's intent is
to showcase new works, preference will be given to unperformed works.
However, works with a limited performance history will also be considered.
Submitted works must have been composed within the past five years and may
not be available through a major publisher. Self-published works are eligible.
ArtSong is designed to honor the best in current American art song and
to provide composers with a prominent presentation of their music. The
competition capitalizes on the presence of international caliber vocalists
who are scheduled to perform at the June 2006 Saint Paul Summer Song Festival.
This year's participating ArtSong performers include mezzo-sopranos Jennifer

YALE GLEE CLUB EMERGING YOUNG COMPOSERS COMPETITION, FEB. 1
Announcing the Yale Glee Club Emerging Young Composers Competition.
Composers in the early stages of their musical careers may submit unpublished
works for mixed choir (SATB), unaccompanied, with piano accompaniment, or
with instrumental accompaniment of not more than 3 individual instruments,
3-5 minutes in duration. Text may be secular or sacred, and the rights to
texts must be cleared; evidence of copyright holder's permission must be shown.
Pieces should be at a level of difficulty suitable for an average college
choir or community choir, or strong high school choir. Yale alumni may
participate, but current Yale students and Yale employees are not eligible.
Receipt Deadline: Feb. 1. Prize: $1,500, travel expenses for premiere,
possible publication in the Yale Glee Club Choral Series. Submit five

2006 WASHINGTON INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION FOR COMPOSERS, FEB. 28, $30
The Friday Morning Music Club Foundation of Washington, DC announces the
2006 Washington International Competition for Composers. Composers regardless
of nationality are invited to submit original, unperformed chamber works for
3-5 instruments in one of the following combinations: string trio (violin,
viola, cello), piano trio (violin, viola, piano), string quartet (2 violins,
viola, cello), piano quartet (violin, viola, cello, piano), or piano quintet
(2 violins, viola, cello, piano). Receipt deadline: Feb. 28. Prizes: First
Prize is $5,000 and premiere performance at the Kennedy Center for the
Performing Arts in Washington, DC on May 21, 2006; Second Prize is $2,000.
Composers must be between 20 and 35 years of age as of May 1, 2006 in order
to be eligible for the competition.
Applicants must submit three bound copies of the composition, (each
clearly marked with a pseudonym), a completed application form, photo of the
applicants birth certificate or other proof of age, a copy of the applicants
resume, a non-refundable entry fee of $30 (only in US dollars drawn on US
banks or money orders in US dollars) payable to the Friday Morning Music Club,
and a self-addressed envelope accompanied by sufficient postage should the

NEW MUSIC MIAMI ISCM FESTIVAL: CALL FOR SCORES, MAR. 1
The Miami Section of the International Society for Contemporary Music
(ISCM) at Florida International University (FIU) is pleased to announce a
call for scores to be considered for the New Music Miami ISCM Festival being
held April 2007 and for consideration as part of FIU's NODUS ensemble's
2006-2007 concert series. The call is open to all composers - without
restrictions. Postmark deadline: Mar. 1. The New Music Miami ISCM Festival
will feature 5 concerts and meet the composer sessions over 3 days. Composers
and performers from Europe, Latin America, Asia, and the US are anticipated
as participants. The festival will cover lodging for the composers that are
invited to participate. The FIU based NODUS ensemble and other guest
performers TBA are scheduled to perform. The focus of the 2007 festival will
be new music for chamber ensemble and/or soloists. The NODUS concert series
features performances by the ensemble at various South Florida venues.
Works that employ one or more of the following instruments (one on a
part) will be considered for either the New Music Miami ISCM Festival and/or
the NODUS concert series: Bb Clarinet or Bass Clarinet, Bb Trumpet, Piano,
Percussion, Violin, Viola, Cello, Contrabass (works with or without tape,
video, and/or electronics are acceptable). Works with durations over 15
minutes will be accepted but are not recommended due to programming
considerations. If submitting multi movement works, please indicate if the
movements may stand-alone. Up to 2 works may be submitted with a processing
fee of $20 US for the first work and $10 US for the second (foreign currency
will not be accepted). Please make checks payable to the FIU SCHOOL OF MUSIC
(do not send cash). Note that submissions with checks NOT made out to the FIU
SCHOOL OF MUSIC will be rejected. Credit card payment is acceptable. Please
make sure to include a signed statement authorizing the use of the card for
the amount specified with the type of card, card number, and expiration date
(credit card submissions with incomplete authorizations will not be accepted).
In addition to the score, a recording of the work (CD or DVD - no
cassettes please) is very strongly recommended. Parts must be immediately
available if the work is selected. Please include a bio, program notes, and
SASE if you wish that your materials be returned (submissions received
without SASE and not selected will be recycled). If you wish confirmation of
the receipt of your materials please send a stamped self-addressed postcard
that will be sent to you upon the posting of your materials. Since
blind judging is employed, please make sure that your name does not appear on
the score or recording (please do include the title of the work on both). All

Carillon Composition Competition 2006. The Competition is a part of the
Carillon Festival to be held on April 8, 2006. The purpose of the competition
is to encourage the writing of original carillon compositions by young

The Association of Friends of the Brandenburg Symphony Orchestra
(Frderverein Brandenburger Symphoniker) announces a competition for
composers of symphonic music. The competition is for composers of any
nationality and there is no age limit. Composers are invited to submit a
maximum of three scores and corresponding recordings representative of their
abilities for composing in the orchestral medium (at least one submitted work
must be for symphony-orchestra.) A vita of the composer's professional
achievements is also required. Postmark deadline: May 31. Fee: EUR 10
(approx. US$12). Prize: The winner of the Brandenburg Composers' Prize will
receive a commission (5.000 Euro) to compose an orchestral work for the
