Coronation for Brass Choir (Op.27, no.1)

This Coronation was written a while back for the Conceptual Music Competition. The theme was of course, "Coronation." The following is the prompt/description I provided with the entry:

"This piece was written to convey the strong emotions seen throughout the day of an important ceremony: the coronation of a new leader. It begins with a swelling fanfare anouncing his arrival, followed by a main theme depicting the happy peasants in particularly jaunty moods. The ringing speech of their new leader to be reflects on the dark times in the near past, the hardships caused by the previous ruler. He tells of what greatness he plans for as their new ruler. Finally, he is crowned. The crowd explodes with excitement again and stronger and soon is following behind the joyful processional. The cries and jeers die away in the distance, and we hear the faintest hint of the fanfare over the horizon as the new ruler sets off towards the setting sun to greet those in nearby establishments."

Any thoughts at all on the piece are welcome. A major concern was that it didn't seem to fit the idea of a coronation. Tell me what you think!

The first part was fantastic, then it sounded like a horrible nintendo varation set

This is coming from a plebian who has no intention of applying any theory knowledge here.


Enigmus, on the whole, okay piece. The Fanfare is too lacking in harmonisation to be fanfare , IMO. to me it sounds more like some kid having fun... u get my idea?


Probably thicken your harmony and add in some percussion. I do not sense any swelling that you have said in your programmic notes.

Also, keep the cheesy counterpoint to a minimum, or add more voices. Two voices in that accord imo sounds like, some mario game?


okay, thats all I have to say, I will go forth to your second piece...

I really liked it, actually. It didn't bother me that it sounded like "some mario game." The opening could have been thicker, but... I enjoyed it.
