Cubase LE 3

Hey peeps!

I just bought Cubase LE 3 and got it all working and crap, so I'm happy I've just got some operation questions about it... first off, I've got a buttload of Gigastudio samples (they came with GS3 Ensemble) and I was wondering if there's anyway of using those samples in Cubase LE 3 WITHOUT using Gigastudio. Also, I don't have any kind of keyboard that is equiped for MIDI, so, my intention is to use the notation capabilities built into Cubase. However my problem, I can't hear the notes when I place them on the staff, only when I play back what I've notated. Is there any way to make Cubase play the notes when I put them on the staff so I can hear what I'm writing?

Thanks,
- Tommy

Yes, you can use giga samples without gigastudio. There are alternatives such as VSampler, Kontakt 2... as well as converting softwares like chickens and extreme sample convertor that converts into a more preferable format. However, keep in mind that giga samples are generally more efficient on gigastudio.

Secondly, the notation is not a separate part of the program. It's also linked to everything else. The notation in Cubase also has a input and output, which you have to set in your project view. If you route it to your gigastudio ports, you will have your sounds.

I don't use Gigastudio because it doesn't work on my computer... at least I don't think it does. Last time I tried it, it didn't work, but back then I also didn't have my MIDI controller, so I'm assuming it should work now. My problem though, I can't get ahold of Tascam so I can have my registration reset. If I'm not on hold for over an hour, their lines are busy! I've got Cubase LE and Halion LE. I know that I can create my own instruments by dragging .wav files onto the keys of the virtual keyboard...but this is not always a good way to go because it doesn't always work so great. So far, other then that, I've only figured out how to open .fxp and .fxb files with Halion LE. But I'm planning on getting Kontakt 2 soon. Anywho, about the notation now. I know how to get sounds out of Cubase and Halion so when I play back what I've notated I hear the notes, I just want to know how to make Cubase play the note when I stick it on the staff so I can hear it as soon as I place it on the staff.

Thanks,
- Tommy

On the top left corner
You should see a button with a speaker and 3 lines shotting out of it. It is to the right of the "S" an d a grey-ed out "e" as superscript. Make sure that speaker is selected

Gigastudio as I've heard has quite some problems running on the same machine as Cubase. Many people experience the same difficulties using this setup. And Tascam don't really have good support. However, here's my guess as to why it doesn't work. When you load up Cubase, then you load up Gigastudio, you actually have to connect them... virtually which is probably why it doesn't work. You have to select Devices -> Giga, and turn on however many Giga ports you have selected, by default, it should be two ports.

I pushed every button I could find that looks like a speaker and I still can't get it to play a note when I put it on the staff, only when I hit the play button or actually click a note that's already on the staff will I actually hear it. BTW, quick question, is there any way to zoom in on the music in the score editor? Cuz right now it's SOOO small and it kills my eyes to look at anything in the score editor.
