Dangerous Music...

Hey all...

I am doing this for a video game project so I can't show all of it.

The commission was "dangerous sound music" to go with the opening film...

Its a bit repetitive but thats what they wanted...I change melody drasticly and its goes pretty crazy from here but this is all I can get away with showing.

I wanted a Phillip Glass/Hip Hop feel.

Feedback appreciated.

I wanted the feel of heaving breathing, like huffing and pufffing.

Awesome music, really *solid*. Sounds like you've upgraded from Reason too.

Love the drum beat.

It's awesome for a video game anyway.

Well done!

Actually, you know what the feel of this piece is, like tick-tock-tick-tock of a clock, only just noticed that second time around, like when the violin comes in, very cool.

I am just honestly searching for critiques to build from not, "you are great". But, thank you if you think so!

I want people to post how this made them feel, if I got the "dangerous music" sound across. I like Phillip Glass inspiration for this, did that come across? Too strongly or not enough?

Stuff like that.

Thanks also Chris, actually this is still reason, but I am getting a little better at mixing I think, and using a new reverb.

Thanks for taking the time!

When I listen to this I picture a movie of a writer sitting at a desk scribbling franticly trying to come up with something good for a dead line, with the camera spinning and comming from different angles. And when he is done, he rushes from his apartment running through the city to deliver it. I didn't get the danger feel. It is a good piece, but it gives me more of the racing frantic feeling rather than a "dangerous" feeling.

A mood piece gets heavily influenced by the visuals. I can see what you are after and think it works. However when you bring in the drum set, it just doesn't sound right. In may be in the mix or in the patch itself.

Other than that it sounds great.

Thanks for taking the time to listen and give feedback.

I think you guys are both right.

It could work either way. Hopefully it works for the given material. I watch the There Will Be Blood trailer with it, and it gives it an interesting mood. Try it!

I liked the lower strings part, but I have to agree that it doesn't sound very dangerous. Maybe some dissonant or augmented chords could add some tension. I would also agree with the dynamics idea, it would help the tension rise a little bit, especially because of the repetition. I don't know about the flute, it makes it even less menecing. You could try some chimes or glockenspiel to replace it if you were going for a contrast between innocence and danger (especially with the glockenspiel.) That may sound cliche, but it can sound creepy if done right. I like the percussion idea, but it doesn't seem to fit. Maybe if you use that instrument earlier in the piece the ear will be more prepared and excepting of it. I think you have a good start! Keep experimenting and see what happens!
