The demonic Alb with the rake OST

Hi everybody,

this is my first music submission in the YC community. The music I'd like to share is the OST that I wrote back in 2004 for the greek movie 'The demonic Alb with the rake'. The movie is satirical horror and, although in greek, it has been recently subbed in english.

I can't even recall the program I used to make this music. I have misplaced the sheet music, so I can't post the score. Even finding the mp3s was a great challenge for me.

Time to compose; It was one week. I was a soldier back then, during my (mandatory in Greece) military service. I had a one-week leave of absence and the deadline was stiff, so I had to do it FAST!

Problems; Nothing really, except for the time limits.

Techniques used; cheesy horror music tricks. Some electronic music. Some Morricone references. That, and a lot of humor.

Needless to say, this isn't a very serious effort. It was hasty, with crappy midis and so on. But, I believe that there are some good ideas in there. I would recommend listening to the Gravedigger theme and the professor theme, as they both have some good moments.

Here is the link; SoundClick MP3: Emmanouel Sgouridis - Band page with free MP3 music downloads on SoundClick

The order (I didn't include cues):

* 1) The demonic Alb with the rake - title theme

* 2) Gravedigger theme

* 4) 2004 theme

* 6) Nicos theme

* 8) The first death

Of course, I would love to hear feedback for how these tunes connect with the movie. One can download it for free from eMule. The subs filename is alb_subs.srt .

Enjoy!

I've heard the first two, very atmospheric, it would go well in a movie..
After hearing those I'm gonna download the torrent right now...
EDIT: Seems like I can't download without registering.. Mind uploading the torrent to another site?

Nigel, the movie is not mine. I just wrote the OST (and I have the role of the narrator, you can enjoy my superb acting abilities ). I am going to have to talk with the guys in charge to see if they can upload the torrent in another site. Also, you can always download it via eEmule.

Thanks for your time!

Edit; The torrent link has been updated! Sorry for any inconvenience!

I think your music is quite lively and inspiring. And really gloomy! I guess this was the original purpose.I especially liked tracks 1 and 3. Good work.

Nikolas; Of course, masterpieces of the cinema need a lot of MBs to truly blossom! Hope the movie is worth the bandwidth for you!

el-russo; thanks for your time and your kind comments. I am very glad you enjoyed my amateurish attempt. The idea behind the music was to provide a gloomy background for an, otherwise, humorous movie. And to have fun!

Well!

One thing to say!

BRAVO!

The film is hillarious! With a meaning!

I didn't have time to study everything closely and give proper feedback atm, but the main point (regarding music) is that it fitted greatly there. It didn't bother, it wasn't a nuasance, it wasn't boring, it was there and acted perfect, as film music (in most but the most peculiar films) should!

for this I conggratulate you Mano!

Additionally, I heard a couple of songs on the Soundclick page (before seeing the movie), and I have to say that I was a tad dissapointed with the quality at first, but now after seeing the movie it just... works!

The advice I would give (should you need one), would be to find a way to get you hands on better instruments. Your instincts surely work fine as they are! (and you now have a 33 minute movie in your portfolio! )

Other wise for the rest... we'll speak about it later on.

Oh, btw, I downloaded the non sub movie (since I'm Greek), so don't know how well the subs work in english. But I'm sure they do, as actually this movie has been taken care of (it is cared for, I mean )

Nikolas

as a future professor (Mathematics) I can see this being played as I walk down the hall and then enter the classroom. Nice work.

Nikolas: You saw it? You saw me act? Now I feel exposed!

Yeah, the guys did a perfect work. The film was very humorous and spontaneous. that's why I agreed to collaborate pro bono.

I asked them and I used another person's PC, an old version of Cakewalk, note-by note input (no MIDI keyboards) in the crappy notational Cakewalk tool. The sounds are coming from that, with a little bit of mastering to make it sound less MIDIesque.

I am very glad you liked how the music fitted the movie. For me it was a great lesson on how to produce something that works, with crappy equipment and a stiff deadline.

I never considered adding such a work in my portfolio (because I don't have one), but...why not? That's a good idea, even if I just did it for the laughs!

There is a sequel out there, 'Alb b back'. It is 1 and a half hours long, but I felt it lacked the spontaneity and the great humor of the first movie, so I denied to write the OST for that. I believe it can be found in Google Video.

You should get the subs. They add even more to the movie.

Rolifer: I have an english professor friend and she shares your opinion. Poor children...
