Exclamation Dinosaur - James Newton Howard

An under-appreciated but very pretty and enjoyable score to listen to.

I had the good fortune to come across it recently, so I decided to post up a link here about it in the hopes that some of you will also find it to your liking. I'm particularly fond of the generic "ethnic" vocals and instruments, I think they lend a very listenable quality to the score.

Anyhow, I've found a video on YouTube that features a short compilation of highlights from the score, so it should give you a solid idea of whether or not you'll enjoy the full thing. Let me know, I'd be interested to see what everyone thinks of it.

To me the music is "nice" in that it seems typical of movie music. The "ethnic" voices/instruments kind of confuse my sensory inidicators
It seems more stylized and pastiche like as sometimes the voices will at one point seem to have an "ethnic" prsenetation and then at an instance like at 1:10 and 2:17 the voices seem less "ethnic". For me the first 50 seconds were what I liked most in comparison to the rest.

As I said, the music is nice but so much flim and video game music thrive off of the same stylized sounds and arrangements that its hard for me to get excited or interested when listening to something like this.

But, I'm sure the music will work well with visual presentation.
But, I am interested in hearing more of the score.

Thanks for sharing the vid

I remember loving the opening scene of this film with its music.

Since, I've actually fallen in love with others of his scores: Peter Pan, Signs, Treasure Planet, Sixth Sense...

Signs is among my favourite scores. It's just one of those understated filmscores with an incredible finale.

In musical criticism, when issues of craft and technical consideration are set aside, what remains is more subjective. However, until technical issues are dealt with, the subjective portion bears considerably less weight.
