Eastern Flavors

This is my first piece that uses my brand new East West RA. What a ton of fun RA is.

Here it is

Box.net - Free Online File Storage, Internet File Sharing, Online Storage, Access Documents & Files Anywhere, Backup Data, Send Files

I am still getting used to using all my new toys, so I know it still needs work, but I would love any comments or suggestions.

Thanks

Ron

i think i love your new toys more then you do

im glad to hear your music come to life with EW, in fact, this makes me want to invest in it. you give this one a very distinct and original feel. extremely interesting harmonies, i think if i were to critique anything, it would be the lack of the variations in the driving pizz. maybe you could change the key on them or change the intervals up a bit. i believe you arent done on this (or thats at least the jist i got) so i know you will continue to tinker with this. as far as content, as always its authentic and i love it, you choose the instruments wisely. thank you for sharing more of your work Ron, i always listen with pleasure in your music

I have a ton of work to do on this and I like the idea of changing the pizz around some and I know it needs a key change as well, I just gotta figure out how to do that in Sonar. This is both EWQL Gold and EWQL RA.

The other day you were talking about getting a decent keyboard so you could work faster. Well, this one took about 3 hours so far. I figure on another 10 hours or so tweaking it to get it right, but for 3 hours, I am very happy with it and had to share it.

It helps to practice with this stuff, but with finals in a week and a half, who knows.

It's been a long but good day, so I am off to bed.

Thank you my friend and have a good night.

Ron

Rollifer, you are really churning out the pieces. I can't keep up with you posts. Anyway, this was a really effective piece and you have obviously already got a lot of work done learning how to use the EW samples. I thought the piece worked best in the second half where the pizz or martele sound was more in the background and allowed the other solos to show through. I gather, from what you say above, that you are partly improvising this and then copying and pasting your keyboard performance is that correct?
I have also invested in some EW boxes. How do you find your computer copes with these. Or did you have to invest in an upgrade of that as well?

When I am on a roll, I just can't stop. I have about 8 pieces I am working on right now that are in various stages and I am posting a little faster than I should, but the feedback helps a lot.

I updated my computer last fall to a Dual core w/3.0 chips and 4 gigs of Ram. I am presently running both the Kompakt player and the libraries on 1 hard drive and have loaded up to 35 tracks without a problem. This summer I hope to invest in a 2nd hard drive where I will put the libraries. My hard drive now is 7600 RPM, whereas I plan on buying the 2nd one at 10000 RPM.

The way I composed this was by playing the pizz cello line into sonar, from my keyboard. I then copied those 5 or 6 measures and let them replay. I then added, again by playing on my keyboard, the first 4 or 5 instruments. I then copied that and Played the rest on top of those. I would play a section once and get an idea, then hit record and record on top of weverthing else. I did some of the drawing in of the CC data (I still need to do a lot more of that) and then bounced it and Played with the audio file a little and then exported it. Like I said, this was only 3 hours, so there is a ton more work to do with the individual midis and CC data.

Which EW's did you buy? If it was Silver, you should have no problems. If Gold, then depending on how old your computer is, you may have problems. If you went Platinum, then I guess you need to network 3 - 4 comoputers to get it right.

I read at the EW site of a guy that is networking 8 computers with his libraries, but he can load almost the entire setup.

Thanks for the comments

Ron

LOVE the opening sequence!!! Really nice. I love this new toy of yours! its so cool and you are doing some nice things with the new range of colors. I really like it a lot. I can feel you with some of the dissonance and melodies. Its like Ron locked in the middle east.
Really cool!!

Hey Scott

This was so much fun to do. The piece just about wrote itself. I added some percussion and now I gotta let it sit and ferment for awhile before I go back and fix the mistakes that are left.

Good luck with the concert if I can't make it.

Thanks

Ron

Ron,

An interesting mix of instruments. I didn't find the widely spaced "thump BUMP"s added much, not to me anyway, unless you are aiming for eastern Excedrin headache no. 9 . Otherwise quite enjoyable.

It needs some polishing but has lots of possibilities. The new samples are certainly inspiring you which is great.

This is still a work in progress and I know that once I get into working more with the CC data, the Bass drum will be toned down some. I still have to do some of the other percussion as well and I may even switch the 2nd half of this into another Key.

I don't see this as a stand alone piece as much as backgound music for something else.

Thanks for the listen

Ron
