Eine Kleine Fugue Song

Okay, my girlfriend wrote this piece, which she is calling "Eine Kleine Fugue Song." And yes, she already knows that that's a retarded name.

This would be her opus number one, so don't be too harsh, but still be honest with her. Also, she considers it to be a work in progress.

This is a neat piece--I love the dramatic gestures, the sound, and the grand rit. at the end. The lengths of each phrase, and the small breaks between them, are very crisp and seem to lend a well-roundedness to the music. I would love to hear it when complete.

Damn, I wish the first piece I wrote was nearly as good as this... I love it! It has a very unique sound, with harmonies I really like, and the way the instruments seem to be "attached" to each other gives it quite a striking character. It's almost ironic to call something where the voices are so homophonically bound together a "fugue" of course, but it makes me grin.

While I agree with everything smallercomma said, I'd like to add that while I see what's meant with "well-roundedness", the piece definitely has something "edgy" to it too. I mean that as a compliment by the way. Music that is too perfect and "round" can get boring.

It's short, wild, uncompromising and very original. Wonderful! I'll keep that one on my hard disk.

Thanks a lot for the compliments; I was definitely expecting more of a barrage of loathing than anything, so I must say I was pretty overwhelmed when I read your responses. I'm especially glad you appreciate the title, Gardener! I'll keep you (both) updated on how it turns out.

First off welcome to the forum. This is a nice beginning. Welcome as well to the wonderful world of composing.

Just one little piece of advice. Since music involves the interaction of human beings, some will love your music while others will not enjoy it at all.

I have posted pieces here that have been torn apart and yet on other sites, the same piece received high praise. You have a good deal of dissonanhce in this, so expect many to not like your work just because of that. Personally, I think dissonance is what makes music interesting.

Actually, one more little word that is true inaall aspects of life. The more you do something, the better you get at it. If you keep composing, you will see drastic improvement in your works, very quick. So keep at it and have fun with your music.

Thanks for the advice, Ron! I'm happy that the dissonance clicks with you. Sorry I haven't gotten any updates at all. I've been incredibly... stuck... in terms of where to go with the piece. I finally moved it from Guitar Pro to Sibelius, which is something of a big step for me I guess, although I haven't actually made many changes. Hopefully soon I will think of something! Any suggestions?
