Talking ET in Beethoven? haha!

Does anyone else find it funny that in Beethoven's 5th, mvmt. IV you hear a very John Williams ET theme.

Dear lord...

I was just listening to the 5th the last week for the first time in a while and I remember chuckling to myself that that theme in the 4th mvt. sounded rather Williams-like.

Are YOU suggesting that John Williams might *shudder* steal from classical masterworks and pawn them off as original music?!

COME ON!! Next you'll try and tell us he 'borrowed' from Mahler or Strauss or Holst...

Yes, Beethoven was obviously thinking of ET when he wrote it.

The way you said it makes it sound like Beethoven borrowed from Williams, and not the other way around .

There's also lots of Vaughan Williams, Britten, and Sibelius in Williams..... but that diminishes him in no way.
That's like "OMG I see the influence of Vivaldi in this work of Bach", or "Beethoven's C minor piano concerto/piano sonata, A major string quartet, E flat septet / string trio, etc., show the influence of Moztsheart!!11 Call the police! Or the vice-kapellmeister!"

Ahem...
