February/March 2008 Monthly Competition
OK, it's time!! LONG competition ahead. So, that means I want a lot of submissions. YAY!!! This time we are writing a DUET for two monophonic Instruments.
SO DO IT!!!
The Rules:
* You must write for two single staff instruments (not necessarily monophonic instruments... so two Violins, although not monophonic, would be acceptable.)
* There may be NO keyboard instruments used. No pianos, organs, harpsichords, etc.
* You MAY choose ANY TWO monophonic instruments, NOT LIMITED TO THE SAME FAMILY!!!!! (That will allow for better contrast and make a more interesting duet)
* The piece must be normal notation, in other words the judge's notation software must be able to play it, please submit in midi format (you may also include a .pdf score for easy to read variations and score notes like dynamics and such.)
* AMENDMENT TO THE ABOVE RULE: If in the case notation is not normal and cannot be played by a composing software (such as in between pitch notes, pitch bends, tongue flutter, String Harmonics (but I think this can be done)), you will be allowed to use it provided: You submit a PDF of the piece, an explanation of ANY non-standard notation techniques employed, and an MP3 of the piece. If this is not followed and you submit the piece and any of the judges cannot play it, we shall notify you and hopefully allow you to change it. In the event this happens after the deadline to submit the pieces, you will STILL be allowed to write the explanation of the devices used and submit an MP3 and PDF, but you will not be allowed to change the piece. That is ONLY if this is caught AFTER the deadline.
* AMENDMENT TO THE ABOVE AMENDMENT: Any problem in providing a PDF and or a MP3 when using non-standard notation will be handled on a case-to-case basis.
* The alternative is the submission of a compressed .mp3 file with link, however, you must provide a score so that we may see the notes.
* Include information about piece in submission: Name of Piece and Instrumentation are required, however you may include anything else.
* There may only be TWO staffs on each system. Remember, two solo instruments.
* When you submit the composition, you must show what techniques you used. Tell us WHY you wrote for which family of instruments you did. Give us
PROGRAM NOTES!!
* You must compose an original piece. You may have help from people (obviously I cannot stop that), but please be honest, I like FAIR competitions.
* DO NOT use a piece that is ALREADY WRITTEN (BY YOU OR SOMEBODY ELSE!! GRR)
* ADDED RULE: You MAY have instrument changes if feasible for the player.
Entry to CONTEST deadline is February 20th, 2008.
Entry PIECE thread will be open by the 15th of March.
This Competition will close on April 1, 2008.
