I am using Finale 2004 at the moment, but I figure the commands should largely be the same.

1. How do I add an instrument to a score I already have started?

2. How do I add a roll for snare drum?

1. Select the Staff Tool (looks like a treble cleff), then use the pulldown menu that appears where File and those are to select "Add New Staves." You could also do "Add New Staves with Setup Wizard"

2. Select the articulation tool and select the one that looks like 3 parallel lines atop each other. That's the fastest roll.

Also, if you are entering a lot of rolls, use metatools. Hold the number 8 and click a note to assign the role to that note. You can view metatool assignments in the articulation selection dialog, and you can create your own by holding shift (while back on the score) and pressing the key you want to program.

If you enter music from Simple Entry, you can enter these articulations on the fly. After entering the note that you want the articulation on, press the asterisk key on the numberpad and then the metatool key (in this case 8).
