Or we can just post whatever we feel like, without regards to anyone else. Whatever.

Anyway I don't see the point in giving lengthy discussions of our music. The competition is about the music, not about what the composer thinks about it.

Hmm, I quite disagree with you there. I think the composer's intentions are ALWAYS important, and should typically accompany a piece of work so that it can be played to the composer's wishes. Most especially with a work like this. If you are composing for a filmed scene, but the practicing orchestra has no way of seeing the scene you invisioned, than you should do your best to describe that scene to them. It helps to add that extra dimmension to the piece.

As regards to the selection process, I was under the impression that it would be the conductor and not Thomas who chooses the winning piece. Therefore, all biases and ill-feelings will be thrown out the window. I for one would like to hear all the pieces submitted, even the ones that did not qualify.

Actually, what I meant was: The composers should not write anything about their pieces because it is possible that they have not skillfully conveyed ideas they wanted to in the music of their piece, and Thomas might read this and become biased towards that piece or against it. Like, if you have not skillfully put something meaningful in your piece, even though you set out to and it is apparent to you only, telling us that will take away from the focus of the competition, which is to see who has skillfully written the best piece of music. Not who can tell us a lot about it, but not necessarily have it all in the music.

And, Nightengale, Thomas is going to select 5 pieces, which will all go before the conductor. He will then pick the one final winner.

I strongly believe that if a contestant wishes not to have their piece publicly heard, they do not have to post it.

Well, my posting here wouldn't affect that. When I sent my files to Thomas, my email contained a detailed description of the scene, as well as notes on the score and notes about a few minor discrepancies between the playback and the score.

I thought Thomas was supposed to know what our scenes were. You never said he wasn't until now.

What are you so upset about? You're a mod, delete my post if you want! I was responding to Tumababa, who seemed to hope to start a discussion on our music. You didn't complain a whole lot when I was telling you about my scene and piece over AIM... in fact, if I recall, you asked if you could hear my piece.

Haha I was kidding, sir.

Go ahead and post, I'm sure Thomas isn't going to be biased anyway, so it's probably a moot point to make anyway.

And about Thomas knowing what a piece's scene is, if the composer wrote for one, he should have included it as program notes that would be on the program if he were to be the winner. I guess I didn't mention that. Oh well. If any composer wants to write up a little summary of your scene to give a listener a better view of what you wanted, go ahead and do it and send it to Thomas' e-mail.

Sorry I left that all out, if you didn't already send him some little notes.

Heh... Instrumentation... BAH!

I had written the piece for a possible performance with the local symphony here which fell through. I saw the competition and I thought, "Eh? Why not?".

After consideration, I am allowing Tumababa to rescore instruments in the piece because I believe he generally didn't realise the instrumentation requirements and also to increase the number of competitors in this competition (I mean from 19 to 8? ... come on)

Please don't get moany moany about this decision, I believe it's fair and will provide good competition which is good for all of us .

Oh yeah, by the way, just a little correction for all of you about the conductor - she's a female (many have been using 'he' in your posts so I thought I'd just correct you!)
