Finale + MIDI

Hey guys,
I've just recently got into Music Composition. I'd say I'm a intermediate/beginner when it comes to Music Theory, and a COMPLETE idiot when it comes to MIDI. I was wondering if anybody could help me out or point me in the right direction.
I'm looking to compose a score and just purchased Finale. Manually going in and clicking each note, note for note, on the staff was getting very tedious. I was reading up on MIDI and just bought a USB to MIDI cable and hooked up this keyboard I had laying around. Everything seems to be working fine in that department. I just wanted to know if it was at all possible to be able to play chords and whatnot on my keyboard, and have Finale convert them into notation. I've tried to research more into MIDI, and I am just completely confused. I'm not looking to make a precise MIDI symphony, I just want some easier way to record notation.

Can anybody help me?

Assuming the drivers for the keyboard are installed properly, all you have to do is go into Finale's MIDI menu and select the keyboard as an input - then you can record what you play directly as notation.

Reading the manual is really helpful.

I'm able to select the keyboard in MIDI step, but then I arm the track, and use the Hyperscribe tool thing and hit record, but nothing comes up after that. I feel like I'm just missing something.

That's interesting...so you've got the keyboard set up and when you select the HyperScribe tool, click a measure, and start playing, nothing comes up?

Pretty much. Is there anything else I need to configure? I'm not 100% if my keyboard is working properly. I mean, it shows up as a device for MIDI In, but I was messing around w/ Beat Source > Tap > and then it says Finale is listening, I go to play and nothing happens.

Well it sounds like you've set things up properly, but you might want to check the HyperScribe settings to make sure that it's starting to record immediately. If that doesn't work either, then I think your keyboard is probably the issue.
