First Composition Ever!

This is my first attempt at composing a piece. I used a finale workbook program that came with my music theory book. Unfortunately I found that I could not figure out how to add any measures so I realized at about the 17th measure that I would be stuck with 21 measures. I also cannot figure out how to upload a score, so I don't have a link for it. I have a long way to go as far as the world of composing is concerned, so I would appreciate just about any comments that anybody is willing to offer.

well its a nice chorale..It has a somewhat more modern Bach chorale sound. Nothing wrong with it. Sounds kind of dreamy. Maybe see how you can alter this piece to make it into several different pieces as a type of study: a version w/ more counterpoint, a faster version, a version where this chorale acts as the backing voices to a new melody, etc.

It was quite gentle, rather charming really.

I think that all I can say on terms of developing that is basically what benxiwf said.

In general it was quite sweet

Very nice for being the first piece.

Was this gonna be a Video Game piece or what, cause the instruments sounded good sounding for a VG.

my only issue with this piece was the way you directed your Chord Progression "flow." Some parts didn't go well, but it was very peaceful.

Very impressive for being the first.

Actually I did imagine it as a video game piece. And I agree with your statement about the chord progression flow. I felt very iffy about it especially at the end when I was trying to resolve the piece within the 21 measures. The first few chords I had written down a few months ago and I came back to it to see if I could make something out of it.

Though it may be my first piece, and even though I'm not a piano player, I often try out different chords on the piano so that I can get an idea of what they sound like, which I think helped alot in writing this. Even though I know a good deal about part writing, I have to admit I kind of ignored what I know in writing this and I pretty much wrote whatever just came to mind. It was fun!

Thanks for the comments. This is a beautiful art that I am excited to get into.

OK, this's really cool, my first post here had the EXACT same title as yours, even with the !, it's down in incidental page 12 or 13 now

The middle section is really nice..I wish you had developed the piece more, around that part specifically. It would be a good song intro; maybe loop it at the end and bring in a solo melody line for a few minutes. Something like vocal style orchestral maybe...a great start in composition tho!
