My dad (a drummer) explained at dinner tonight that he's started a new rhythm exercise with his hands: in 12/8, leave out every third beat in the right hand and every fourth in the left, like this:

XX-XX-XX-XX-
XXX-XXX-XXX-

So I said why doesn't he write something based on that, and he said you're the composer, why don't you. So I did, a short flute-piano loop, and here it is. He was a little surprised...

I liked catchy rhythm and smooth modulation in the loop (it's 30 seconds long, right?). Have you ever though of continuing the loop and turning this into a Jazz piece?

Very nice. Jazzy. I loved it.

Although, I thought it went on for an extremely long time... How many times did you repeat?

Lol, I just added a repeat in Finale and said 'loop infinitely'! I didn't mean it to turn out ten minutes long!! I'll remember that next time. Yes, it's only about 30 seconds. I'll probably do more with it, this was fun to try. Man, it must have repeated about 20 times or more...

This piece could actually be called a 'chaconne', 'passacaglia' or just a ground (bass) which is based on an 'obstinate' bass...basso ostinato. Nice work!
